How Secure is your System Security?

An uncomfortable truth - There is no system in the world that cant be hacked!

And by hacked we mean, no just accessing the data but also rendering the application unusable ( you need a disaster recovery system in place).

With cyber-attacks being a common daily occurrence the quality of your security is now super critical. Like most things in this world, quality security means different things to different people.

A good place to start is to ask yourself the following questions with a score of 1-5 where 1 is no impact and 5 is very high impact:-

  1. What would be the cost and impact if yours and your client’s data ended up in the public domain?
  2. What would be the cost and impact if yours and your client’s data were suddenly inaccessible? How long could your continue in business without access?
  3. Is your software and infrastructure enabled to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation now in place and enforceable by law in April 2018?

If any of the above 3 questions cause you concern please read on ……..

For the majority of organisations it is now both beyond their expertise and budgets.

It’s another uncomfortable fact that for the majority of organisations to provide quality security for their on-premise systems, it is now both beyond their expertise and budgets.

Quality Cloud computing provides the security infrastructure at an affordable cost.

So, if your on-premise or cloud supplier system is just relying on what are called SSL certificates plus access via a user name and password then you are vulnerable.

As a minimum you should be having in addition:-

  • Data encryption in transit.
  • 2-factor authentication.
  • Data encryption at rest.
  • Auto database replication to one or more other sites (disaster recovery so your business can continue to function).
  • Variable length back up retention times.

Does your application provide granular security down to field level so sensitive data is not visible to individuals or teams/groups viewing the file but whose security level prevents them seeing sensitive data?
